The CERT training program is open to individuals who live or work within the communities served by County Fire: Cupertino, Campbell, Los Gatos, Monte Sereno, Saratoga, Los Altos, Los Altos Hills, and the unincorporated surrounding areas only. Using classroom and simulation based education, CERT members can assist others in the neighborhood or workplace immediately following an event when emergency responders may not be immediately available to help. CERT training is only $35.00 and is not payable until the first day of class. The training is 21-hours over 6 evenings and a Saturday morning, culminating with a final disaster simulation exercise applying the skills participants have learned. Fee covers participant's safety equipment and training material.

As part of the Community Education & Preparedness Program, the Santa Clara County Fire Department (SCCFD) provides emergency preparedness training classes that includes both the Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) and the Personal Emergency Preparedness (PEP) classes.
